Powin Energy Corp starts construction of 120 MW energy storage projects in Idaho

Powin Energy Corporation has started the construction of two battery energy storage facilities with a combined capacity of 120 MW for Idaho Power. 

The 80 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) is being constructed at the Hemingway substation in Owyhee County and the 40 MW BESS facility is being built next to the 40-MW Black Mesa solar photovoltaic project in Elmore County, Idaho, USA. 

The two projects will have Stack750 product of Powin Energy, part of its modular BESS platform Centipede. Centipede uses LFP battery cells from battery OEMs CATL and EVE with a cycle life of 7,300 and a round trip efficiency (RTE) of 95%. 

Idaho Power targets to commission the two projects by the summer of 2023.
