UK energy secretary Ed Miliband has granted planning consent to JERA Nex BP and EnBW’s 1.5 GW Morgan wind farm located in the Irish Sea, UK.
Developed by JERA Nex bp and EnBW, Morgan Generation is the second project from the UK’s Round 4 leasing round to receive consent. The Wind facility will consist of a 96-turbine array, enough to power the equivalent of around 1.5 million UK homes each year.
A consent decision was originally expected by 10 September, following the Planning Inspectorate’s six-month review of the Morgan DCO application, which concluded in March. The submission had been made on 24 April 2024 and moved into examination a month later.
The Morgan project is planned to link into the National Grid at the Penwortham substation in Lancashire by late November 2029, using a shared transmission system with Flotation Energy and Cobra’s adjacent 480-MW Morecambe offshore wind farm, which is currently undergoing its own DCO assessment.
