The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) has accepted the 800 MW Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park's Development Consent Order (DCO) application for examination. The DCO application was submitted by Elements Green on June 27, 2025 and will commence later this year.
Plans include planting over 60,000 trees, creating 800 acres of biodiversity areas, 50km of new hedgerows, and more than 30km of new permissive paths and bridleways, including a circular recreational route around the site.
The new solar and energy storage park is located to the northwest of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, UK. It has a potential generation capacity of around 800 MW AC of solar energy. This is enough clean, affordable energy to meet the power needs of approximately 400,000 homes. The Development is proposed to occupy approximately 1,765 hectares of land to the northwest of Newark, Nottinghamshire. Of this, approximately 1,025 hectares would be used for solar area Development and a new BESS to ensure stable flow and storage of electricity supply, balancing the needs of the grid. The remaining area is allocated for mitigation and enhancement measures, underground cabling, and safe access during construction.
