Orsted and PSEG joint venture Ocean Wind and fabricator EEW have started construction on New Jersey’s first offshore wind manufacturing facility. When complete, it will supply monopiles to the 1100 MW Ocean Wind project off the southern coast of the US state.
An investment of USD250 million was announced for new monopile manufacturing facility located at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal in December 2020.
Construction of the facility will be completed under a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with the South Jersey Building Trades Council.
Construction activities include clearing and grading of the 28-hectare site, reinforcement to increase quayside bearing capacity to accommodate the 2500-tonne monopiles, and the construction of two large buildings that will support circumferential welding, sandblasting, and painting.
