OnPath Energy has submitted proposals for a new wind farm to East Ayrshire Council in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
The proposed project involves the development of the Glen Water Wind Farm in East Ayrshire by OnPath Energy, designed to generate renewable electricity and support the transition to clean energy. The plan includes installing up to six wind turbines (reduced from earlier proposals) with a maximum height of around 200 metres, along with necessary infrastructure such as access tracks and grid connections. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to power approximately 36,000 homes each year, contributing significantly to reducing carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
The project also focuses strongly on economic and community benefits. It is estimated to bring over £40.3 million to the local area over its lifetime, including around £30 million in economic activity and a £10.3 million community benefit fund. This funding will support local initiatives, infrastructure, and development projects. Additionally, the project is expected to create about 183 full-time equivalent jobs, particularly during construction and development, while prioritising local businesses in the supply chain.
Another key aspect of the proposal is its emphasis on community involvement and sustainability. The developers have adjusted the design based on public feedback by reducing the number and height of turbines. The project also includes a local decarbonisation pilot aimed at lowering energy costs for nearby households, as well as offering a small share of community ownership. Environmental measures such as habitat restoration, peatland protection, and the creation of walking and heritage trails are also planned, making the project not just an energy facility but a long-term community and environmental development initiative.
