NorthWestern Energy has entered into an agreement to purchase the energy from a 20 MW solar PV project to be developed near Billings, Montana.
The agreement resulted from a request for proposals that the utility issued in early 2018.
The contract will help NorthWestern fulfill its obligations under the Renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act. Under the law, the utility is required to procure supply from certified Community Renewable Energy Project (CREP) totaling at least 67 MW.
The new solar project is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2021.
