The City Council of Chesapeake in Virginia has granted the development approval for the planned 118 MW solar photovoltaic project sponsored by NextEra Energy Resources LLC.
The conditional use permit was granted after the developer agreed to preserve the landscape environment in the area and the decommissioning of the project in 35 years.
The Chesapeake Solar Project will be installed in about 369 hectares of leased agricultural land. The project represents about US$135 million of investment in the city.
Commissioning of the solar farm is expected to be done before the end of 2022.
