New Fortress Energy has held a ground-breaking ceremony for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in the port of Pichilingue, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
The company was awarded a long-term contract for the development, construction and operation of the terminal by the Port Authority of Baja California Sur (APIBCS) in July. It is expected to invest MXN3.6 billion (US$190 million) in the project.
The terminal will be completed and begin operations in the year 2020. The LNG received in the new terminal will be used for local consumption, reducing the emission of pollutants by 70% and the cost of fuel by 50% in comparison to current power generation technology.
