NEC completes the installation of Switzerland’s largest energy storage system

NEC Energy Solutions (NEC ES) has completed the installation of the 18 MW/ 7.5 MWh energy storage system. The project is located in an existing substation in Volketswil, near Zurich, Switzerland. The project is the largest battery energy storage system in the country.

The storage solution system is owned and operated by Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ). The company is one of Switzerland’s largest power distribution companies, EKZ.

The project can provide electricity to 600 households with average of 4 person daily. The system is used primarily as reserve to stabilize grid frequency in response to deviations.
