Lithuania has settled on the position of the country’s first offshore wind farm, with the capacity of up to 700 MW, in the Baltic Sea. The site covers an area of 137.5 square kilometers, with a distance from shore of approximately 29 kilometers, an average water depth of 35 meters, and an average wind speed of approximately 9 m/s.
The wind farm, which is scheduled to be operational by 2030, will produce about 2.5 to 3 TWh of electricity annually.
The tender for the development and operation of the wind project is scheduled in February 2023. Prior to this period, the Lithuanian Energy Agency will undertake a strategic environmental assessment and the environmental impact assessment for the project.
The government has also approved the concept for the development of wind turbines in Lithuania’s Marine Territories prepared by the Ministry of Energy.
