Leeward Renewable Energy LLC, a US independent power company, has set the repowering of the 76 MW Mendota Hills wind farm in Illinois, USA. The repowering was completed on March 21, increasing the capacity from the original 50 MW. The company used the tax equity financing by a unit of Citi for the repowering.
The original 63 wind turbines were commissioned to new 29 new Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA’s (SG) 2.6-126 turbines. The technology provider will also provide operations and maintenance services to the facility.
The upgraded facility can supply 276,000 MWh of electricity per year to Digital Reality under a long-term contract.
