JDR Cables has signed a contract with Vattenfall for the Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm. JDR will manufacture more than 170 kilometers of aluminum core inter-array cables and a range of termination accessories. The cable will be assembled in JDR’s Hartlepool facility, with project completion expected in 2021.
The inter-array cables connecting the turbines will carry the generated electricity to an offshore substation, for transmission to shore. The offshore wind generation is a 33 kV cable designed system. The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm, located 15 kilometers east of the Danish coast in the Southern part of the Baltic Sea, will be Denmark´s largest offshore wind farm, incorporating 72 turbines of 8.4 MW with an installed capacity of 605 MW.
When fully operational, the wind farm has the capacity to supply over 600,000 Danish households with renewable energy – equivalent to 23 percent of all households in Denmark.
The Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate has announced that the first of three new offshore wind farms will be tendered this year.
