The Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Communications in Ireland has announced the provisional results of the second Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction aimed at facilitating the deployment of about 1.9 GW of renewable energy projects in Ireland.
RESS 2 accommodates a strong pipeline of community initiatives, including ten communities receiving aid with the generation of their own energy. The scheme also incorporates a compulsory community benefit fund for all projects, which will distribute around EUR7 million (US$7.3 million) annually to the sustainable community initiatives for the communities residing in the vicinity of the projects.
A total of 2,747.89 GWh of the 3,772 GWh bids submitted have been identified as provisional winners, which translates to 414 MW of onshore wind and 1,534 MW of solar power.
