Innogy has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with West Fraser Timber Co. LTD for the supply of green electricity from Innogy's 27 MW Prairie Sunlight III solar project in Canada. With this contract, West Fraser obtains a significant portion of the electricity required to supply its Alberta production sites and sawmills with green electricity and to achieve the company's environmental goals.
The contract runs for ten years. The agreement will take effect in May 2020. The solar power plant will deliver its total annual production - around 45,000 megawatt hours of green electricity - and proof of origin to West Fraser.
Prairie Sunlight III, which is located in the southern Alberta region, near the city of Vauxhall, is currently in the commissioning phase. In addition, another Innogy solar project is in the immediate vicinity shortly before completion. The solar plant in Hull (Prairie Sunlight II, 30 MW) is scheduled to start commercial operation in the second quarter of 2020. Once fully commissioned, the two solar power plants will generate enough green electricity to power around 12,500 Canadian households. Innogy's subsidiary BELECTRIC is responsible for all construction work and will also take over the operation and maintenance of the two photovoltaic systems.
