Iberdrola has received a favorable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the development of the 50 MW Villarino solar photovoltaic project located in the municipalities of Villarino de Los Aires and Trabanca in the province of Salamanca, Castilla y León, Spain.
The project represents an investment of more than EUR33 million (US$35.64 million). It covers a total area of 280 hectares and will have more than 382,000 photovoltaic modules, expected to generate enough clean energy to supply a population equivalent to 27,000 homes and will prevent the emission of 12,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
The project is scheduled to be operational by 2022.
