Iberdrola has launched a takeover bid to acquire the remaining shares of its Brazilian subsidiary, Neoenergia, that it does not already own. The company currently controls about 83.8% of Neoenergia and is now targeting the remaining 16.2% stake, which would give it full ownership of the business. The bid has been submitted to Brazil’s financial regulators, marking an important step toward completing the acquisition process.
This move follows Iberdrola’s earlier acquisition of a significant stake in Neoenergia in 2025 and aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its position in key electricity markets, particularly Brazil. By taking full control, Iberdrola aims to simplify the company’s structure, improve operational flexibility, and enhance its long-term investment strategy focused on electricity networks and renewable energy.
Through this transaction, Iberdrola reinforces its commitment to expanding electricity networks and strengthening its presence in Brazil. Neoenergia, which derives about 90% of its operations from network activities, provides power to nearly 40 million people via five distribution companies across Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Brasília, along with 18 transmission lines. This makes it the largest electricity distribution group in Brazil by customer base. The company operates across 18 states and the Federal District, managing over 725,000 km of distribution lines and around 8,000 km of transmission infrastructure, while also maintaining approximately 3,600 MW of renewable energy capacity, primarily from hydroelectric sources.
Actis has signed an agreement to acquire a 135km electricity transmission line from EDP Brasil, adding it to its Actis Long Life Infrastructure Fund 2 (ALLIF2) Brazilian electricity transmission...
