Iberdrola has announced to develop a green hydrogen project from renewable energy sources in the 100 MW solar photovoltaic park with a 5 MW/20 MWh lithium-ion battery storage system in Puertollano, a city in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain.
The project involves an investment of up to EUR150 million (USD164.7 million).
The currently under constructed 100 MW photovoltaic plant, will feature bifacial panels and string inverters, and a 5 MW/20 MWh lithium-ion battery storage system. The project will also consist of a green hydrogen production system through electrolysis with different technologies that will be tested: alkaline, proton exchange membrane, and solid oxide.
The project will also consist of a main hydrogen storage system in pressurized tanks and an experimental storage plant for other technologies such as LOHC (organic liquid carrier hydrogen), as well as a control system that allows the optimal balance between renewable production, use of the battery and the energy dedicated to the production of green hydrogen.
