The Hydrogen Collective (H2C) has announced its plans to construct the Goondiwindi Hydrogen project, a solar-powered production plant that will provide commercial customers with green hydrogen in Queensland, Australia. The modular and expandable facility is set to use electricity generated from a 2.5 MW solar array and wastewater from a wastewater treatment plant in Goondiwindi for electrolysis to produce up to 1,350 tons of renewable hydrogen per year. The facility is expected to be operational later this year after construction, which is set to begin in the coming weeks, and following the announcement of a financial investment decision.
Though the initial output has been allocated to local customers, including agricultural users and heavy industry, H2C also confirmed that they are in the process of solidifying supply arrangements for other businesses, governments, and project consortia requiring green hydrogen. The company will oversee the production and sale of the project's hydrogen.
The Goondiwindi Hydrogen project underscores the country's commitment to creating a sustainable future and the increasing need to decarbonize industrial processes by transitioning from fossil fuels to green hydrogen.
