RWE (51%) and Northland Power (49%) have selected Hellenic Cables S.A. as the preferred supplier to provide the necessary cables to connect the 44 wind turbines to the substations in Nordseecluster A and the 60 wind turbines of Nordseecluster B.

Hellenic Cables will supply approximately 185 km of 66-kV aluminum and copper conductor cables for the Nordseecluster. The cables will be manufactured at the Hellenic Cables factory located in Greece. The Nordseecluster will be constructed in two phases with a combined capacity of 1.6 GW, and RWE and Northland Power plan to bid for both sites in the German Government’s offshore wind auctions this year.

The Nordseecluster will be situated near the 332 MW Nordsee One wind farm which RWE and Northland Power co-developed and operate jointly. The companies aim to rely on their own expertise in offshore wind and experienced suppliers such as Hellenic Cables to make the cluster a reality. The cables will connect the wind turbines to two offshore substations in Nordseecluster A and Nordseecluster B that will be directly routed into the transmission system operator’s converter. The installation of cables at sea is expected to be completed towards the end of 2025, with commercial operations starting in early 2027 for Nordseecluster A.

The delivery of cables for Nordseecluster B is scheduled for late 2027 with commercial operation to start at the beginning of 2029.
