Grundon Waste Management and Viridor have submitted revised proposals for the development of a state-of-the-art Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) and Waste Sorting and Transfer Facility (WSTF) at Ford Circular Technology Park, between Ford and Yapton, in UK.
The brownfield site has already received planning permission for an ERF - consented in 2015 by West Sussex County Council - alongside a waste transfer facility and waste collection vehicle depot, both of which are currently operational.
In the latest proposal, the project will house the main building with a height of 38.5 meters from the initial 51.7 meters. The waste sorting and transfer facilities are also reduced in size while the new design for the chimney stacks is two instead of one with much lower in height than in the original proposal.
The project will be built at the Ford Circular Technology Park located between Ford and Yapton, adjacent to the wastewater treatment facility, former airfield, and Viridor Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Once operational, the energy recovery facility can treat 275,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste a year and the waste sorting and transfer facility can accommodate up to 20,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste. Ford ERF would generate 28 MW (net) of energy, equivalent to the needs of 68,000 homes
