Three Devon councils of UK have approved GBP7.3 million (US$10.13 million) funding for the district heating network project with heat provided by Exter's energy-from-waste (EfW) plant of Viridor.
The network heating project seeks to supply heat to the housing developments planned in southwest Exeter. The project requires about GBP23 million (US$32 million).
Viridor's EfW plant has been in operation since 2014. The project operates under the partnership with Devon County and can accommodate up to 60,000 tonnes of non-recyclable household waste.
Leep Utilities will operate the heating network as the Energy Services Company (ESCo). The company will work with Viridor to deliver a heating network for up to 2,500 new homes, schools, and other community facilities.
