Genex Power Ltd has reached an agreement with the joint venture of McConnell Dowell/John Holland (MDJH-JV) to commence and implement an early construction works for the 250 MW Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Northern Queensland.

MDJH-JV is set to conduct early works on the project to accelerate the development of the project ahead of financial close which is expected by the first half of 2019.

Genex Power will focus first on work surrounding the hydraulic design and related activity for the hydro turbines, one of the longest lead time items in the K2-Hydro construction program, and will be followed by preliminary electrical design work and other project preparation activities. The project will consist of an upper and lower reservoir, in addition to an adjacent balancing storage pit. The upper storage reservoir will be created using a 'turkey's nest' type dam, constructed on the waste rock dump to the north of Eldridge Pit. The lower storage reservoir for the project will be the existing Eldridge Pit.
