Shell unveiled its plan for 120 MW Queensland photovoltaic solar project. The project aims to supply Shell’s QGC onshore gas operations in northern Queensland. The solar farm will be developed on land located near the town of Wandoan, adjacent to the QGC Woleebee Creek Operations Hub.

The company’s 8.5 million tonne Curtis Island export facility near Gladstone is set to be partly supplied by the solar project. The fossil fuel facility is the company’s biggest LNG operation globally.

The project will reduce the carbon footprint of the company’s Queensland gas extraction activities. No indication was made about Shell’s investment decision and timeline for the project yet. Shell pointed sonnen to supply battery systems to the solar project.

Shell Energy Australia played a bigger role in the east-coast gas market. The company was founded in 2017. The company acquired the QGC operations, through its acquisition of BG, in 2016.
