The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has awarded GE Renewable Energy's Grid Solutions a contract to automate 39 substations of varying ratings across Nepal, as well as construct six Master Control Centers (MCCs), to be monitored by GE Digital Solutions.

The project scope also includes the retrofitting of substation relay panels and other electrical components. GE will connect the automated substations to Nepal's National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) to allow real-time monitoring of electricity transmission through these substations.

However, the transmission system must continue to be improved to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted flow of electricity from generation sites to load centers.
