The Petroleum and Energy Ministry of Norway is not halting the construction of a 288 MW Storheia wind project despite the concerns raised by reindeer herders in the area.
The project, developed by Fosen Vind, received objections from Sami reindeer herders, who feared the wind park would have a negative impact on winter pastures. However, the government assured that the project passed through all legal inspections.
The facility will have 80 Vestas 3.6-MW wind turbines and is expected to be commissioned by 2019. Storheia is one of six wind farms being built by Fosen Vind, a company in which Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS has a 52.1% stake. Its partners in the projects are TroenderEnergi, with 7.9%, and Nordic Wind Power DA, with 40%.
