The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved US$104 million in financing to support a transmission project in Ethiopia.
The project encompasses the establishment of 157 km of 400kV double-circuit transmission lines and the development of associated substations situated at Harar, Jijiga, and Fafem. This investment is poised to enhance the electricity transfer capacity in the eastern region of Ethiopia and will serve as an initial connection point for a potential future power interlink with Somalia. The funding for this initiative comprises a US$52 million grant from the African Development Fund, the concessional lending division of the group, along with a US$52 million soft loan sourced from South Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund.
