Fundação Estadual de Proteção Ambiental (Fepam), the state environmental regulator of Brazil, has issued a preliminary license to the developers of the proposed 810 MW wind complex in the Rio Grande do Sul.
Named as 'Tres Divisas', the wind complex will have up to 18 wind farms with a total number of wind turbines of 180 units each operating at 4.5 MW. The project will be built on about 20,928 hectares of area in the municipalities of Alegrete, Quarai, and Uruguaiana.
Brazilian renewable energy firm Ybytu Empreendimentos de Energia Renovavel SA has applied for a license to develop the wind complex. It is estimated that the project would require up to BRL3.6 billion (US$643 million) of investment.
