The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, to change the joint ownership over the 128 MW Formosa 1 wind project by adding JERA Co to the group, following the transaction that involves the acquisition of a 32.5% equity interest from Macquarie Capital and Swancor.

Located off Miaoli county, in north-west Taiwan, the operating Formosa offshore wind Phase 1 is a pilot project with two turbines and a total capacity of 8 MW installed in water depths from 5m to 30m.

The second phase of the project spans an area of 13 square km and consists of 20 SWT 6.0-154 wind turbines. The machines are installed on monopile foundations about 6 km off the west coast of the Miaoli district in Taiwan Strait. It is comprised of 21 km (13 miles) of inter-array cable, 13 km of export cable, as well as 16 km of land cable to connect to the local substation. The scheme is expected to commence its operation in late 2019.

The offshore wind farm is currently owned by Macquarie Capital Group, Ørsted, and Swancor Renewable Energy Co Ltd.

The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would be in Taiwan. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
