Enercon GmbH has signed an exclusive deal with Colbun SA, potentially supply 132 units of the E-160 EP5 turbines for the 607 MW Horizonte wind farm in Taltal, Antofagasta.
Due to the project will be built in an earthquake-prone area, Enercon is modifying the modular steel tower for the E-160 machines to fulfil the seismic code requirements of Chile. Enercon will also adjust the turbine's hub to 90-110 metres height, to make the turbines suitable to the wind conditions at the site
The installation of the turbines is scheduled to begin in 2022 and expected to be completed in 2024.
The Horizonte wind farm is owned by Chile government and transferred to Colbun for 30 years of concession, starting in 2024. Enercon will be selling the power output of the Horizonte wind farm to the local mining companies in Chile.
