Endesa, through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Spain (EGPE), has started the construction of the Ampliación Los Llanos wind farm, with a capacity of 20 megawatts (MW), which is developed in the municipalities of Cogollos and Hontoria de la Cantera, in the province of Burgos. The project represents about EUR23 million (US$26 million) of investment.
The facility will consist of ten 2-MW turbines installed in the municipalities of Cogollos and Hontoria de la Cantera. It can generate up to 78 GWh per year and offsets about 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
The construction will be based on Enel Green Power's "Sustainable Construction Site" model, including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to cover part of the site's energy needs. In addition, the water saving measures will be carried out through the installation of water tanks and rainwater collection systems; once the construction works are finished, both the photovoltaic panels and the water saving equipment will be donated to the municipalities where the projects are located for public use. A charging point for electric vehicles will be installed at the construction site of the project for workers to use. In addition, in line with the "Creating Shared Value" model of the Enel Group, which aims to combine the development of the business with the needs of the local community, EGPE will implement social initiatives for the benefit of the surrounding communities, including training courses in wind turbine operation.
