Elecnor has been awarded a contract to build a biomass cogeneration plant in the Belgian city of Ghent for EUR86 million (US$96 million).
The Biomass plant is promoted by Gentse Warmte Centrale (GWC), a company formed for this project by Belgian Eco Energy (BEE) and Equitix.
It will have a power generation capacity of 19.9 megawatts (MW) through the combustion of unrecycled demolition wood of local origin. The facility will be located in an old coal terminal in the port of Ghent. In addition, the project includes the production of steam to serve a nearby industrial company.
During the execution of this project, Elecnor will carry out all the required geotechnical and topographic studies, as well as engineering work. In addition, the contract includes all civil works activities such as demolitions, earthworks, piloting and buildings, together with electrical and mechanical assemblies.
