EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. (EDP) has agreed to sell 50% of the share capital, credits and voting rights in the share capital of EDP Produção – Bioeléctrica, S.A. to a subsidiary of Altri, a eucalyptus pulp producer.
EDP Bioeléctrica owns and operates four forest biomass power plants in Portugal, as well as another under construction that is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2019. The generation capacity of the company's portfolio is 100 MW.
This sale gives Altri 100% control of EDP Bioeléctrica. It is expected to close in the second half of 2018, subject to the approval of the EU Competition Authority.
