EDF Renewables UK has successfully launched its first operational solar farm in the UK at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.
The 49.9 MW Sutton Bridge solar farm facility generates enough low-carbon electricity to power over 9,000 homes annually. The site has also seen biodiversity enhancements, including the introduction of native hedgerows, leading to increased sightings of ground-nesting birds, rabbits, and muntjac deer. Additionally, a battery energy storage system is planned for the site, following approval from the South Holland District Council. This system will enhance grid resilience by storing excess energy and supplying it during peak demand.
Sutton Bridge is the first of three solar farms that EDF Renewables UK began operating last year, alongside sites in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, and Porth Wen, Anglesey.
