Dominion Energy Inc. began the construction work on a 12 MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project off the coast of Virginia in partnership with Denmark’s Ørsted A/S. The onshore construction is being carried out by The L.E Myers Company, while Ørsted is in charge of offshore work.
The Richmond, Virginia-based utility owner is working with Denmark’s Orsted A/S to install the two 6 MW turbines 27 miles (43 kilometers) east of Virginia Beach. It is expected to start producing power for up to 3,000 homes in 2020.
The developers will install a half-mile conduit to hold the final stretch of cables connecting the two 6 MW turbines as part of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project to a company substation near Camp Pendleton.
