Development approval secured for 200 MW Solar Farm in Australia

The New South Wales (NSW) Independent Planning Commission (IPC) has conditionally approved Trina Solar’s development application for the 200 MW Glenellen Solar Farm to be built near Albury in the Riverina region, Australia.

The US$250 million project, situated on approximately 300 ha near Jindera, around 16 km north of Albury, is undergoing development by Trina. Trina has implemented various design modifications, including enhanced vegetation screening, a reduction of around 23,000 solar panels, and increased spacing between panel rows from six to nine meters to accommodate more sheep grazing.

The solar plant will feature about 395,000 bifacial PV panels on a single-axis tracking system. Anticipated to produce over 440,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, the facility will connect to the grid through an existing 330 kV transmission line that crosses the proposed project area. Located near the South-West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), this project aligns with the state's efforts to transition from a coal-dependent energy system to hosting wind, solar, and battery projects.
