The Government of Denmark is set to develop two new energy islands in the North Sea and in the Baltic Sea each with offshore wind generating capacities of 2 GW.
The two projects will be developed on the Danish Baltic island of Bornholm and one on the artificial island in the North Sea. It is estimated to require about US$14.7 billion of investment of which will be financed mostly by private investors with no or little state subsidies.
The energy produced from the projects will be used directly or stored through other renewable technologies such as hydrogen production. The Danish government will commence dialogues with the Netherlands and Poland for the connection of the projects once operational.
