Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a controlling stake in a blue ammonia project being developed with Sustainable Fuels Group (SFG). The facility, which will produce low-carbon blue ammonia using natural gas and carbon capture technology, has also entered into an agreement with International-Matex Tank Terminals (IMTT) to provide ammonia storage and handling services. The facility will be located along the Gulf Coast and is set to begin operation in 2027.
The project will initially consist of two phases, each with a production capacity of 4,000 tons per day. The facility will use Topsoe’s SynCOR™ technology, which is expected to have a significantly lower carbon intensity compared to traditional ammonia production methods. The project is expected to reduce CO2e emissions by 90% (Well-To-Gate) and abate 5.0 million tons of CO2 per year.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
