Contract awarded for 500 MW solar PV project in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy has announced the winners for the construction of three solar Photovoltaic (PV) plants of about 500 MW in Namangan, Bukhara, and Khorezm regions, Uzbekistan. The projects and the winnning bidders are as follows:

  1. Masdar won the Bukhara-area project with a bid of $0.03044/kWh. A 62 MW storage facility will be connected to the 250 MW plant;
  2. A consortium led by PowerChina secured the 150 MW project in Uzbekistan’s Namangan region for $0.04828/kWh; and
  3. Voltalia won the project in the Khorezm region with a bid of $0.02888/kWh.

Initially, 11 bidders were selected for the final phase of the tender, and the list includes Jinko Power, ACWA Power, ALARKO, Elsewedy Electric, Nebras Power, ReNew Power, Solarpack, Voltalia and TBEA.

The procurement exercise is the first of two solar tenders for 900 MW. The country aims to deploy 8 GW of solar by 2030.
