ACWA Power and the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) and investment agreements (IAs) for the development of the 1.5 GW Kungrad wind in Kungrad district, Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan project.
The US$2.4 billion portfolio will include three 500 MW wind parks that are controlled by three subsidiaries: ACWA Power Kungrad Wind 1 LLC FE, ACWA Power Kungrad Wind 2 LLC FE, and ACWA Power Kungrad Wind 3 LLC FE. Each of the three projects will have a 100 MW battery energy storage system.
The wind farm is expected to offset 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year and have minimal environmental impact due to the use of the latest mitigation technologies, including bird detecting technology that uses image sensors and software to prevent bird collisions.
