Delta County, Colorado, has voted against the development of an 80MW solar farm that was supposed to offer renewable energy to the Delta-Montrose Electric Association in the USA.
Delta County Commissioners refused to award a limited use permit to the project proposed by Guzman Energy LLC last week, citing worries about the probable loss of agricultural land and various compatibility difficulties as reasons for their decision.
The Garnet Mesa park, which was supposed to cover 472 acres (191 ha), would generate more than 194,000 MWh of electricity per year, enough to power 18,000 households. Guzman has a power purchase deal (PPA) with Delta-Montrose Electric Association for a portion of the PV farm's output. The solar park was supposed to open in the first quarter of 2023.
