China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN) has acquired 75% stake in the 650 MW Markbygden complex in Sweden, owned by a joint venture (JV) between GE Financial Services and Green Investment Group.

The facility is part of a 4GW-plus wind cluster in the northern Piteå municipality. The scheme consists of 314 turbines split in three separate projects, the biggest of which is the 650 MW (first phase), 179-turbine Markbygden ETT park, currently under construction.

The turbines will be provided by GE, and will be installed by NCC Sverige. For 15 years, Svevind owned the project until it was acquired by GIG and Macquarie in November 2017.

Having all the permits approved, the Markbygden is due to be completed by the end of 2019.
