Bosnia's Serb Republic plans to increase the installed capacity of the future hydro power plant (HPP) Buk Bijela located on the upper course of the Drina River, from 93.5 MW to some 120 -125 MW.
Earlier this month, state-controlled power utility Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) and its hydropower complex Hidroelektrane na Drini established a joint venture to manage the production and sale of electricity generated by HPP Buk Bijela.
Hidroelektrane na Drini owns an 80% stake in the new company Buk Bijela HPP, while ERS controls 20%.
ERS has been granted a 50 year concession on the future power plant, which will be Bosnia's largest in terms of installed capacity, reservoir size and mean outputs.
The construction of the project is expected to begin in the next few months, after several years of delays due to legal issues. It is planned to realease its first kilowatts of electricity by the end of 2019
