Ørsted A/S has awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster NV a contract to install inter-array cables for the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm projects in the North Sea.
The contract, subject to a final investment decision by Ørsted, includes the transport, installation, and burial of a combined total of 106 inter-array cables. Boskalis plans to use its 2010-built cable-laying vessel Boka Ocean. The 136 m long vessel, acquired in early 2021, will be equipped with a 4,000-ton turntable. Cable installation activities are scheduled to start in early 2024.
In October 2021, Ørsted A/S has secured approval from the Government of Germany to build the 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm. The Gode Wind 3 project is scheduled to be operational in 2024, while Borkum Riffgrund 3 is expected to be operational in 2025.
