Mercury Renewable has announced its plans to build a 75 MW onshore wind farm and hydrogen electrolysis facility, located on the border of counties Mayo and Sligo in Ireland.
The hydrogen-producing electrolyzer facility will be powered by the wind farm. Black & Veatch was contracted by Mercury to conduct feasibility studies on the development of hydrogen, including determining the most suitable combination for the company of electrolyzer technology and size, as well as hydrogen storage, transit and water supply choices. Multiple scenario studies and proposed site layouts are being developed.
In 2021, Mercury conducted a public consultation on the proposed Firlough wind and green hydrogen development.
