Aurubis plans to invest up to EUR20 million (US$21.18 million) to expand the capacity of the 10 MW in-house solar photovoltaic plant at its site in Pirdop, Bulgaria to 24 MW capacity.
The project will consist of stationary, double-sided modules that will produce more energy than conventional solar PV modules. The 10 MW initial capacity solar farm is composed of over 20,000 solar panels installed on about 100,000 sq.m. land area.
The expanded solar project is expected to generate clean energy for up to 9,000 homes per year. The solar farm is part of the EUR530 million (US$561.25 million) investment package which will be implemented in the USA, Germany, and western Bulgaria.
