Apple Inc has announced that it will invest in the construction of two of the world's largest onshore wind turbines to support its data center energy requirement in Europe.

Once installed near the Danish city of Esbjerg, these turbines are expected to reach 200 meters in height and produce 62 gigawatt-hours each year, enough to power nearly 20,000 homes. In addition, they will be used to test powerful models of marine wind turbines. The energy produced in Esbjerg will power Apple's data center in Viborg, with the surplus going to the Danish electricity grid. Apple's data center in Viborg, a 45,000 square meter facility that provides data storage and network support to its users throughout the region, is now operational.

The wind facility will consist of 8.4-MW turbines by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.
