The construction of the second phase of the El Llano wind farm has begun, with the transporting of 17 turbines from the Almirante Storni wharf in Puerto Madryn to the project site in Chubut province, southern Argentina. The wind farm is owned by Aluar, one of the largest aluminium producers in Argentina.
Once installed, the turbines will contribute 60 MW generation capacity to the wind farm, which is being developed as part of an investment plan to comply with the provisions of the government's National Development Regime for the use of renewable energy sources.
Aluar also confirmed that it has obtained US$56.7 million financing from Denmark's Export Credit Agency EKF for the purchase and installation of the wind turbines for the third phase of the project. Disbursements will be made according to a fixed schedule over a thirteen-month period, with the loan being amortized in quarterly installments until it matures in 2034.
The three phases altogether involve the installation of 45 turbines across a 14,000-hectare area, which will generate 164 MW.
