Algeria will block Total from acquiring Anadarko’s assets in the country.

Anadarko holdings in Algeria represent about 260,000 barrels of oil per day, more than 25% of the country’s crude production estimated at 1 million barrels per day.

Total has agreed to buy all of Anadarko’s oil-and-gas-producing assets outside the United States, including its biggest future expense, a multibillion-dollar liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique, for US$8.8 billion.
