The Adani Group has announced a major move into the battery-energy storage systems (BESS) sector by planning a 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh energy-storage facility at its Khavda renewable-energy complex in Gujarat. The project involves more than 700 battery containers, employing lithium-ion technology and advanced energy-management systems, and is scheduled for commissioning by March 2026.
The BESS will enable the plant to deliver 1,126 MW of power for roughly three hours continuously, thereby helping manage peak loads, shift energy use, mitigate solar curtailment, and support a 24-hour renewable power supply — a key enabler for grid stability and India’s low-carbon transition. Moreover, the Adani Group has laid out an ambitious expansion roadmap: adding 15 GWh by March 2027 and targeting 50 GWh of storage capacity within five years.
