ABB has completed the 500 kV digital substation that will allow Enel Green Power to supply carbon-free electricity from the 608 MW Sao Goncalo solar photovoltaic project in Piaui, Brazil.
The first section of the plant, which has 475 MW, began producing energy in January 2020. When fully operational, it can generate more than 1,200 GWh per year, eliminating more than 600,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
The ABB has decided to digitize its operations and asset processes to improve energy efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and increase the use of sustainable solutions. The greater accessibility to the signals and data on the site allows the company to accelerate informed decision making and develop real-time solutions to cope with the fluctuation of energy in solar irradiance due to cloud movements.
